For someone who uses Hoklo Taiwanese only conversationally, listening to Chen Chao-cheng (陳昭誠) read his Taiwanese poetry aloud is a unique experience. Whether he is in an enormous concert hall or in a cramped living room, the rising and falling pitch of Chen’s voice instantly lights up and moves his audience.
